What is even more summery and interesting than shantung? Shantung grenadine! These special yarns combined with our beloved grenadine weave make this tie so special. As this fabric is already unique enough, we went for a simple double bar stripe in white. Pair it with a brown fresco suit, white shirt, burgundy braces and loafers.
Shantung Grenadine combines one of our favorite yarns with one of our favorite weaves. Shantung is a kind of raw silk, meaning the silk worms are allowed to hatch naturally, resulting in shorter yarns that have to be wound together more often than in traditional silk, resulting in a wonderfully slubby, slightly irregular texture. Combined with the characteristic grenadine weave the result is a material full of life and character. At Shibumi, we use this material mostly in wide patterns so that the whole tie does not get too busy.
In the heart of the Italian silk industry, Como, lies one of the oldest silk weavers in Europe. Founded in mid-19th-century, at first as a supplier of silk for furnishings and clothing, they began to make silk for ties when it took its modern shape at the beginning of the 20th century. To this day, a lot of historic, wooden looms are in use, which have not been produced in decades. But there is no substitute for them: our popular grenadine silk is woven on them, for example. We just love this heritage of Italian craftsmanship and we do our best to keep those traditions alive.
