Beyond Basics: Shirts II
Level 2: still blue, but much darker. Not navy, of course (that is reserved for casual wear), but decidedly not light blue, too. The key to this kind of shirt is to find the right shade of blue that works for your complexion; just hold them to your skin, some will look better than others. A bit of structure (such as a nice herringbone) or stripes can be good, too. Now wear this shirt almost like any other blue shirt, but keep suit and tie decidedly darker to still fulfill the “shirt always lighter than tie” rule (which of course can also be broken successfully, but that is another story for another article). Once you have successfully mastered this kind of outfit, you can begin to experiment.
